DESCRIPTION:Explore the heavens during one of our astronomy nights. Open houses involve presentations on a range of fascinating astronomical phenomena\, instruction on the telescopes\, and\, when weather permits\, observing with our beautiful historic Fitz telescope as well as modern supplemental telescopes. \n  \nPlease note: astronomy events at the Observatory take place even if the weather does not permit observing. We offer unique tour and telescope demos when we can’t observe the night sky. Tickets are required\, and open house registrations are capped at 100 guests. You can arrive anytime from 8:30 pm to 10 pm. You will be given a time slot for visiting the dome. While you are waiting\, check out other features and presentations.

SUMMARY:Making Big History: How U-M Added Billions of Years to Students' Education
DESCRIPTION:In today’s schools\, students are frequently taught a variety of specialized subjects with little sense of how they relate to each other or the world around them. The Big History Project seeks to change this by building off students’ natural curiosity about our world and its nature. Over the last fifteen years U-M faculty in the Marsal Family School of Education\, with support from Bill Gates\, have helped develop Big History into a revolutionary program now taught in over 3\,000 American schools and over 40 countries worldwide. Within the Project students travel over 14 billion years from the Big Bang to the rise of agriculture and beyond. Weaving together history\, astronomy\, biology\, chemistry\, and many other subjects into a single narrative the Projects has helped elementary and high school students better understand people\, civilizations\, and how we are connected to everything around us. \n  \nBob Bain is Associate Professor in the Marsal Family School of Education and in the Department of History at the University of Michigan. A high school history and social studies teacher for 26 years\, he is the founding Director of the World History and Literature Initiative\, co-founder of the award-winning Clinical Rounds Project\, and chair of U-M’s Secondary Teacher Education Program. \nRegistration for in person can be found here \nRegistration for virtual can be found here

SUMMARY:Astronomy Night w/ Feature Talk
DESCRIPTION:Explore the heavens during one of our astronomy nights. Open houses involve presentations on a range of fascinating astronomical phenomena\, instruction on the telescopes\, and\, when weather permits\, observing with our beautiful historic Fitz telescope as well as modern supplemental telescopes. \n  \nPlease note: astronomy events at the Observatory take place even if the weather does not permit observing. We offer unique tour and telescope demos when we can’t observe the night sky. Tickets are required\, and open house registrations are capped at 100 guests. You can arrive anytime from 8:30 pm to 10 pm. You will be given a time slot for visiting the dome. While you are waiting\, check out other features and presentations.

DESCRIPTION:This walking tour meets at the corner of S. University Ave. and State St.\, on the outer northwest corner of the Law Quad. \nHave you ever wondered about the history of the buildings that sit in the middle of campus that many associate with the Renaissance\, east coast Ivy Leagues\, or even Hogwarts? \nThis walking tour seeks to familiarize you not only with the illustrious\, imposing architecture of the Law Quadrangle here at the University of Michigan but also with the historic presence of the Law School itself. Over the course of 1.5 hours\, we will discuss the conception of the buildings themselves\, the winding roads it took to get there\, and the Law School’s many years of influence on social issues and legal education as we stroll through the Quad. Join us as we uncover stories and debunk myths about the distinctive University of Michigan Law Quadrangle.
