Event Details

The Detroit Observatory invites you to join us for the next total lunar eclipse! Late on May 15, 2022, the Moon will totally enter the Earth’s shadow, creating an astounding orange color across the Moon’s face, allowing a unique view of the moon and night sky. Lunar eclipses happen around two times a year, and total lunar eclipses are even rarer!
The DO will be opening its doors for most of the duration of the eclipse, from 10:30 PM until 1:00 AM. We will be providing telescope observing through our historic Henry Fitz refractor, along with outside observing with smaller telescopes. Telescope observing is weather dependent.
